President's Message

Dear Friend of the Museum:

Welcome to our web site! As you review the web site, it will become abundantly clear all that the Utah Museum of Natural History has to offer you, your family and friends. Seven days a week you are invited to visit this incredible state resource. I am proud to be a part of the Museum, and I hope you will also enjoy spending your time in a journey of discovery here.

A few weeks ago my granddaughter and I spent several hours at the Museum. This was not our first trip. We have visited special exhibits before and have marveled at the beauty of the work done by the Native American communities. We have been taught by youth and examined more bugs than I care to remember! We have shopped in the gift shop and even had a birthday party here. My granddaughter also takes classes at the Museum and proclaims, “This is my favorite place, except for my home and my school!”

This time, for some reason, as we moved through the Museum, the questions were different. Rapid-fire curiosity accompanied our every move…”What’s your favorite dinosaur?” “What’s a paleontologist?” “How much does this crystal weigh and who brought these treasures here?” Question after question and the only thing more captivating than the priceless treasures was the look of sheer wonder and pleasure on her face. Together we had once again entered a world of fascination and discovery. In keeping with the Museum’s mission statement, we were sensing “the illumination of the natural world and the place of humans within it”.

Please enjoy the Museum and all it has to offer!

Sincerely,

Sue Christensen
