Kid Focus 2008 Theme: DNA at Work

We are learning a lot about DNA this summer at the Museum, due to our Summer Exhibit. So, to make this year's Kid Focus fun and challenging, we've selected a theme of DNA at Work. Can you find evidence of DNA at work in the world -- especially the natural world -- around you

Visit Putting DNA to Work at the Museum this summer with your family. From the exhibit, learn how DNA is out of the laboratory and at work in the world. Then use your creativity to find DNA at work around you!

Kids 1st Grade through High School invited to participate

UMNH has expanded the age levels for Kid Focus Photographers this summer! Photographs will be judged according to age categories by a panel of professional photographers from the community. Age categories are:

1st through 3rd Grade
4th through 6th Grade
7th through 9th Grade
10th through 12th Grade

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded to up to ten photographs in each age category. And every kid who enters will get a free pass to the visit the Museum

Kid Focus 2008 Contest Guidelines

Kid Focus is open to kids in or entering 1st through 12th Grade.
Use your creativity to find DNA at work in the natural world. Take an original photo of DNA at Work in the world around you. Or, if you prefer, take a photo of a place or scene from the natural world that you particularly like.
Each person may only submit one photo, either online or in person.
Each submission must be accompanied by an entry form in order to be part of the judged competition.
Photos may be submitted online -- see instructions below.
8 X 10 photos may be submitted in person at the Museum by the deadline.
Photos must be received by 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 4, 2008
Winners will be announced online on Saturday, August 30, 2008

It's easy to submit your Kid Focus photo digitally directly to Walgreens.

Get your parent or an adult to help you and follow these simple instructions:

Have your parent or an adult to log on to www.photo.walgreens.com
Log in using the following case sensitive info:
- User Name: UMNH
- Password: kidfocus
Choose the Kid Focus 2008 Photo Album
Click on "Add Photos" then click on "Upload" and follow the instructions.
Once you've uploaded your photo, go to "Edit and Organize" and click on "Caption photos".
Caption your photo with the Photograph Title and your first name only.
Be smart online! Do not include your last name, your age, your address, your school name or any other personal information in the caption!
After you are done with your online submission, complete the Kid Focus Entry Form.
Write "Online Submission" across the top of the form
Mail or fax the Kid Focus Entry Form to the Museum at the address or fax number printed on the form. Without the Entry Form, we will not be able to contact you with prize and Museum entrance pass information

Photos must be posted to the online submission no later than midnight Monday, August 4, 2008.
Entry Forms must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 8, 2008.
